Members of the Year 11 Boys Football Team achieved an early Christmas present by reaching the final of the U16 Suffolk County Cup just prior to going on Christmas holidays.
The Academy side faced a very good Stoke High School in their semi final fixture. Despite not having any ITFC Academy players they are a very strong team, with each of their players being an extremely good footballer which makes Stoke a very difficult team to break down and score against.
In the first ten minutes Stoke started the game much better than our own team with some excellent football, stopping us from playing the great football we have shown for the past three years. After 15 minutes Stoke gained a corner which was cleared by the Felixstowe defense, allowing the Academy side to immediately counter-attack. This move ended with Charlie Hitchen scoring the first goal of the game. This goal gave the whole team much needed confidence after a slow start, and from this point our team were in control of the game.
Jake Crumlish and Charlie Bance, both playing in central midfield roles, took complete control of the game and stopped Stoke’s two fantastic midfielders who had taken control from the start. Felixstowe Academy were able scored again before half time after Jack Moss linked up with Sam Ford and scored a fantastic goal after he had beaten two other players.
Jack Moss put in a brilliant performance throughout the entire game; this was his best game for Felixstowe Academy, and won him the Man of the Match award. In the second half the game opened up a little more with both teams creating chances. But the Academy side held their nerve and scored two more, making the score 5-2 to put us through into the Final of the Suffolk County Cup, which we won last year.
Although the Cup Final opponents are still to be confirmed, the whole team have every intention of retaining the trophy this year!
Congratulations to the entire team:
