Women's Cycle Tour - Felixstowe Stage

May 2014

This Women's Tour was an international elite women's cycle race newly launched this year, running across 5 stages in the East of England.  This particular race has been given a Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) grading of 2.1 which is equivalent to the grading given to the Tour of Britain which was also hosted in this county from 2010 to 2012.

Selected students took part in the event as well as other local primary schools and cycling clubs from around the town. The race was lead off by primary schools, Felixstowe Academy and then cycling clubs reflecting participation right from grass roots level.

Students cycled down to the event leaving plenty of time to watch riders warm up and prepare for the race.  Stage 3 of the tour left from Felixstowe Town Hall then travelled through Ipswich, finishing in Clacton.  Ten students were selected to lead out the elite group of cyclists from Felixstowe Town Hall to Felixstowe Town Centre.  After a quick retreat to a nearby road, the elite race zoomed past headed for Ipswich.

The girls thoroughly enjoyed this once in a life-time experience!
