The annual Felixstowe Academy Sports Day took place on a scorching sunny Friday (4 July) with students buzzing and ready to start the first activities with positive attitudes. This great atmosphere lasted right until the end of the day.
Students represented their colours in Sports Day this year, Dark Blue (the chanters), Light Blue (the energetic ones), Yellow (the loudest!) and Orange (the creative ones), but competing against their own year in track and field events.
This year was the first time ever at the new Academy campus where a sports day was held and where the whole Academy was all together; and not split across two campuses, this lead to an even greater atmosphere and sense of unity. Mr Ozanne and I kept updating the crowd through the event using the Academy’s new PA system, and with the music helped to build and keep the fabulous atmosphere . The day was brilliant compared to previous years and as Orwell Allenby's old Sports Leader I can say that order of events was very well organised and prepared, and the atmosphere made by the students and staff (and weather!) made this even better.
My personal highlights included the Opening Ceremony with the competitors walking out to the track to the song ‘Hall of Fame’, along with seeing the determination of the students to win their race! At the end of the event we had the humorous but rather competitive Staff Relay with the 'Boy Band' team coming first and surprisingly followed by Mr Stares and Mrs Breeze’s team. Judging by the chants of the crowd, students felt it was a great shame that Mr Salter didn't take part - maybe next year! To wrap up the exciting event, the day was finished off by a performance from members of the Academy’s Jazz Band.
It was great to see so many students taking part this year, and cheering on their Communities. Each Community was awarded points based on the position the competitor finished. The table highlights the total points for each Community, with the final Champions being the Dark Blue Community.
Congratulations to you all!
