The Felixstowe Academy Year 10 Football Team played against the Bromfords School from Basildon in the last 64 (out of 770 schools) of the English Schools Football Association Cup this week and we are pleased to say that we WON 2-1!
The boys were fantastic - playing some great football on a wet, waterlogged pitch. From the beginning the Academy side started to dominate the game, however around 10 minutes in the Bromfords side got a penalty which they scored to make it 1-0.
Felixstowe came straight back at them applying a lot of pressure which eventually led to us getting a penalty, but this was missed. I am pleased to say that the boys did not drop their heads and continued to press! This pressure paid off when Charlie Brown was put through and which he neatly tucked away to make the score 1-1. It remained like this for the first half.
In the second half we started very well and put them under a lot of pressure. We had so many chances however could not put the ball into the net. That was until Charlie Brown took a corner which found Luke Barnes in the box to header past the keeper. For the final 10 minutes the Bromford School side pushed us back trying to find an equaliser, but our defence stood firm and we won 2-1.
The team played extremely well and competed against what was a very physical team.
That has put us in the last 32 out of 770 nationally!
The man of the match was Matthew Tetley as decided by the players.
The next match will be played against Beamount School (St Albans, Hertfordhsire) at Felixstowe Academy on Wednesday 28 January.
