Felixstowe Academy is celebrating the magnificent exam success of their A Level and Level 3 BTEC students today, with results highlighting real year on year improvement in the attainment of the highest grades.
The recent exam results show that all Felixstowe Academy students within key subjects such as Maths, English and core Sciences achieved pass marks, and growth in the attainment of students achieving grades A* to C.
The Academy is proud that 95% of Maths students achieved A* to C grades, with 26% of students achieving the very highest A* grade. In addition to this, 88% of students taking A Level Further Maths achieved A* to C grades.
Within Biology and Chemistry, 17% of Academy students achieved the highest A* grade. Overall 77% of Physics, 75% of Chemistry and 71% of Biology students achieved A* to C grades.
In addition to the performance within Maths and Science, those studying English and History should also be applauded with 77% of English Language, 69% of English Literature students and 82% of History students also attaining the highest grades.
The success doesn’t stop with A Level results. Over half of the students studying Level 3 BTEC courses achieved Distinction*/Distinction grades, and all students passing their chosen courses.
There has been significant focus within the Felixstowe Academy to provide supportive advice and guidance to students to enable them to make the most informed decisions about the right pathway choice when moving from GCSEs into A Levels or BTEC courses. This process has helped to shape the right blend of A Level subjects and BTEC courses the Academy has to offer, enabling our students achieve their best potential.
Felixstowe Academy Principal, Mr Andrew Salter said of the results ‘It would be true to say that we are all delighted with the performance of all our A level students this year. We have worked hard to ensure that we have given good advice and guidance to our students at the beginning of their Sixth Form studies in terms of appropriate course choices to match their skills and abilities following their GCSE successes. We are now seeing the results of this along with the fact that we have been constantly monitoring and improving our teaching at KS5.’
Mr Salter adds ‘As well as the significant improvements in our headline figures this year compared to last, (PPC up from 634 to 809 / PPE up from 201 to 213) we are delighted to be reporting significant individual achievements from a large number of our students, with 15% of these achieving A* grades this year.’
‘I am delighted that many of our students are now able, with these excellent results, to move on to the next stage of their lives with confidence, a sense of pride, achievement and with excitement that the future for them is shining bright. We have students who have been accepted to study at Cambridge next year and others have chosen and been accepted to study at other equally prestigious educational establishments. Those not going on to further education have been fortunate enough to secure apprenticeships or employment.
Whatever our students chose as the next step in their lives I wish them all the very best of luck and hope that above all else they have a happy and healthy life which balances study / work with enjoying life and everything that they do. I also very much look forward to welcoming these and other past students back to the new Academy when we move in next Easter, 2014 to celebrate with us the next stage in the exciting development of education in Felixstowe with the continued support and sponsorship of the Academies Enterprise Trust (AET) 'to make our best better'.
As Head of Sixth Form, Mr Darryl James is delighted with the progress shown within these grades ‘The results this year are some of the best we have seen. Both students and staff alike have put a tremendous amount of effort in to achieving these outcomes which have allowed students to secure places at the best universities.’
We continue to welcome application to the Felixstowe Academy Sixth Form for the next academic year. Please contact Mr James at Felixstowe Academy on email at firstname.lastname@example.org for further details.
