Felixstowe Academy welcomed back former Sixth Form students prior to the Christmas Break for an evening of celebration and reunion.

It was a great opportunity to celebrate summer exam successes with many former students who were either just returning from their first term at University or having completed their first few months in employment.

The evening started with the presentation of examination certificates, before moving on to the subject award presentations, all nominated and presented by subject teachers.  The awards didn’t just reflect the examination grades, but also took into consideration contribution to the subject area and contribution to life at the Academy.  The evening was also enhanced by the musical performances of current Sixth Form students Giedre Skeiryte and James Trivett.

Mr James, Associate Assistant Vice Principal and Head of Key Stage 5 was delighted to see so many of last year’s Year 13 back in the Academy; ‘Last year’s results were some of our best on record with so many of our students achieving A* against the downward trend nationally. The evening was our chance to celebrate with them and hand out subject specific awards in recognition of the efforts made as well as sharing a drink and beautifully prepared buffet.’

He added ‘It was pleasing to hear how well these students were settling in to life at University and the world of work as well as news of one student setting up his own football coaching company!’

Parent Mrs Tink, joining her daughter Imogen Tink  for the evening said ‘We had a great time and it was nice to catch up with old friends amongst pupils, staff and parents. We very much enjoyed the presentations, the refreshments were delicious and the musical treats on offer were excellent too. For us it was a fitting end to our time at the school over the last ten years. We can all be justifiably proud of the young people with whom we celebrated last night.’

We wish all our former students and their families every success for the future.
