Big Team Effort for Macmillan Cancer Care Coffee Morning

posted 7 Mar 2014, 06:16 by Google Google   [ updated 7 Mar 2014, 06:16 ]

There was a fantastic turnout for this year’s coffee morning event – this year held on three Academy sites simultaneously and thus a real team success.

On our Garrison Campus the Sixth Form publicised, baked, organised and sold refreshments in their common room, kindly supported by staff and Key Stage 4 students. At a time when they are working hard on Key Stage 5 courses, it is brilliant of them to give up their time and energy to get involved.

There were some amazing cakes made and some fantastic Sixth Form students who gave up their time to raise funds for an excellent cause.  Many thanks to those students and staff who donated cakes, their time and/or their money.

In The House, students baked cakes, serving them with hot or cold drinks to visitors and invited members of their families.

At Maidstone Campus it was the twelfth and last coffee morning on that site and as many students as possible were involved.  Over fifty Year nine prefects and over 20 Year Seven students worked in teams through most of the morning and the night before; blowing up balloons, setting up tables, putting out plates of food and of course serving to staff, students, friends and parents who attended.   The total raised was a magnificent £160!

Special mention must go to Amy Barrenn, Kerenza Oswald, Holly Gallant, Jessica Monk, Tilly Hunwicke and Amy Utteridge in Year 9, who stayed after school on Thursday to bake and decorate over a hundred cupcakes, and to staff, students and parents who gave up valuable time to make something lovely. The tables were groaning during both break times but amazingly it all went!

Watch out for something even more amazing this time next year in the new Academy building!

Congratulations to everyone on a fabulous event!

Ode to a Coffee Morning

(With my apologies to any poets living or dead)

As it’s National Poetry Day

We would all just like to say

That tomorrow we hope you’ll find your way

To the Sixth Form or Music Hall.

You can come down during either break

For coffee, a chat and a piece of cake

That students and staff were happy to make

And sell to you over a stall.

By Friday we’re all tired as you can believe

And the weekend will seem like a happy reprieve

But it’s great to see what teamwork can achieve

We want to welcome you all.

Mrs Dixon

Grand Total Raised on the Day: £259.88
