Felixstowe Academy recently organised a series of workshop sessions designed to familiarise students with possible routes for post Year 12 and to show them where they can obtain information, advice and guidance about possible career ideas for the future.

The Academy was grateful for the support of outside organisations who delivered specialist content to ensure students were given a wide range of information throughout the event.

The event partners delivered content  relevant to a range of workshops as follows:-

  • ‘Making Choices’ with University Campus Suffolk
  • ‘National Apprenticeship’ website
  • ‘Discussing employers expectations’
  • ‘Opportunities Suffolk’ with Felixstowe College (ITS)
  • ‘Inspiring choices’ with CASCAID, Kudos
  • ‘What are they? Where are they? What is in it for me?’ with BT Apprenticeships
  • ‘Bridging the gap between education and employment’ with U-Explore

The event was a great success, with Mr James saying “The event gave students an opportunity to explore a range of different options after the Sixth Form and to consider career pathways.  Students appeared engaged and interested in the various presentations and workshops led by our guest speakers.  For some it reaffirmed their desire to go to University and gave them a useful starting point in deciding how to make the right university choice as well as an introduction to the UCAS process.  For others, it opened their eyes to the possibility and scope of apprenticeships that are out there. For all students, career mapping  clearly helps to sharpen their focus when it comes to studying at this level.

The next event will be on 10 February 2014 with a focus on Personal Safety.
