The final Chamber Concert of 2013 to be held at Felixstowe Academy capped what has been a fantastic year of musical events showcasing the Academy’s talented students. The concert was well suported, with students, staff and family members joined by local councillors and the Mayor of Felixstowe, Councillor Jan Garfield.
The Chamber Concert included keen upcoming performers from Year 10 right through to more experienced A-Level Music students, with brilliant Year 10 student Laura Trivett opening the evening with ‘Whistle Down The Wind’ and Sixth Form student Giedre Skeiryte’s outstanding performance of ‘Gone’ bringing the performance to a close.
It wasn’t just an evening for singers either, with Ben Topliss playing the flute solo ‘Berceuse’ and Alex Wright playing ‘Gigue’ and ‘The Late, Late Blues’ on Saxophone. We also had a group performance withJoe Coniam singing ‘Hold On, We’re Going Home’ with Ashley Roper (guitar and voice) and Jacob Woods(drums).
Wade Ablitt accompanied Sean Bennett, Keelen Swift-Stalley and Charlee Bullock, giving the audience a sneak peak into some of the musical numbers from the Academy’s 2014 production 'Wonder'.
There were many great performances throughout the night, Natasha Bulloch accompanied by Mr. Wren performed a fantastic cover of the hit "back to black" by the late Amy Winehouse.
With only a few weeks remaining until the Christmas concert on Thursday 19 December, I know all the budding musicians of Felixstowe Academy are practicing and preparing to put on another outstanding Christmas Concert at St Andrews Church. I'm sure this event will be a fitting finale to the end of 2013 for Felixstowe Academy.
