Each year, Lions Clubs around the world proudly sponsor the Lions International Peace Poster Contest in local schools and youth groups.  This art contest for children encourages young people worldwide to express their visions of peace.  For more than 25 years, millions of children from nearly 100 countries have participated in the contest.

The theme of the 2013-14 Peace Poster Contest was ‘Our World, Our Future’

All Year 8 students at Felixstowe Academy designed a poster to show their own idea of peace around the world and there were some excellent posters. First prize went to Ellena Ward with second and third places to Kacy Collins and Kira Scopes.  Ellena’s poster was among more than 375,000 entries submitted worldwide in the 27th Annual Lions International Peace Poster Contest which is held to emphasize the importance of World Peace.

Les Roome, the President of Felixstowe Lions Club said that he was impressed by the standard and effort of all the students who took part and that he was hopeful that our entry from Felixstowe would show that students tried to portray the contest‘s theme of “Our World Our Future”.

The winning poster now goes forward to the Zone Contest where winners from other clubs are judged, the winner of that contest then go forward to the all England contest. After that stage the winning poster from England will go to the finals in New York where the International Grand Prize Winner and two members of their family will be invited to go to a presentation ceremony on Lions Day at the UN Building in New York.

Locally there will be prize-giving by the Felixstowe Lions.

The posters can be viewed at Felixstowe Library during November through till December.

Winners from previous years can be seen on the website, on the competitions page.
