We are very lucky at Felixstowe Academy to have many members of our community who excel at their chosen sport, club and special interest group.  But for Year 10 student Becky Sherwin, success in the national arena of her chosen sport has placed her on the path towards international competition.

As a result of Becky’s performances at this summer’s National Swimming Championships, in which she won two Gold and two Silver medals, she has been selected to be part of the ‘World Class Programme’ run by British Swimming as a ‘Podium Potential Level Athlete’.

Only 67 swimmers across the whole country are selected, with 22 at ‘Podium level’ (theses are the real top swimmers) and 45 at ‘Podium Potential’ level.   To quote British Swimming ‘A Podium Potential level athlete is defined as an athlete possessing genuine potential to make the team at the 2016 Rio Games, and/or to medal at these Games or the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.’

Congratulations Becky for achieving this recognition!  We all wish you the very best success in your training and preparations for future competitions.
