Welcome to the New Academic Year from Mr Salter

posted 7 Sep 2014, 22:14 by Web Admin
Dear Students, Parents and Carers,

I hope that you have all had a pleasant and restful summer break enjoying some time to yourselves and with family and friends.

I wanted to take this opportunity to welcome you all back to the Academy for the beginning of the new academic year.

For those of you who will be new, in Year 7 and those joining us in other year groups, a warm welcome and I very much look forward to welcoming you all personally during the course of our first day which is Monday 8 September 2014.

As you will see from other information on the Academy website, students from different year groups begin the day on Monday at slightly different times.

From around 8.15am we welcome all our new Year 7 students onto the Academy campus, lining up in new tutor groups on the Multi Use Games Area (MUGA) followed, at 9.00am, by those in Years 8 and 9 following the same routine.

Students in Years 10 and 11 are expected on campus no earlier than 11.20am, gathering in tutor groups on the MUGA and adjacent field, with Sixth Form students arriving at the same time but going directly to an assembly in the Main Hall.

Most of the time in the morning will be spent in tutor groups sorting out new timetables, having planners (Years 7, 8 and 9) issued. I will be leading a series of assemblies during the course of the morning and these will be interspersed with the tutor time activities. Tutor time will also be a chance to catch up, to make new friends and to develop working relationships between staff and students. It is also an opportunity to ensure that all the Academy expectations are clear so that everyone can work together to ensure that life around the Academy is as positive as it can be each and every day.

Breaktime is at 10.05am for years 7, 8 and 9 (KS3). Lunch for KS3 will be at 11.40am with lunch for years 10 and 11 starting at 1.00pm. Staff and Sixth Form will be able to take their lunch at any time between 11.40 am and 1.30 pm according to their other commitments during the morning.

The new Academy lanyards with identity cards attached for access control (staff and Sixth Form) and for paying for items during break and lunch are now part of the Academy uniform expectations and these must be worn at all times and will continue to be the only method of paying for things within the Academy. So, don't forget your lanyards and cards on Monday morning. Parents / Carers, please ensure that your child has money added to their card/account via ParentPay.

All our usual expectations relating to time keeping, attendance, attitude and behaviour along with uniform and equipment will apply from the beginning of day one.

This is an exciting time in the unfolding history of Felixstowe Academy as we begin a new year from the very beginning in our fantastic new building. This is an opportunity for all of us to really focus upon our learning from day one without distractions.

Finally, I wish you all a very happy and successful new academic year.

Mr A Salter - Principal
